4MS Group Holdings illustrates the potential of entrepreneurship in Botswana. The 100% Batswana-owned transport enterprise was founded in 2001 by four former employees of Kgalagadi Breweries (KBL). Beginning with only two trucks and two trailers, 4MS has steadily grown and now operates 26 superlink trucks, seven flatbed trailers and three tautliner trailers, with an additional three trailers set to join the fleet soon. Ranked a leading transport-services provider in Botswana, 4MS has around 40 employees.

Most of 4MS’s work is for KBL, but the company is looking for partnerships with other customers, particularly FDI projects in Botswana. Managing Director and co-founder Daniel Mokiri explains, “We handle shipments for KBL throughout Botswana and in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We are currently diversifying to be able to transport fuel as well as Botswana’s significant amounts of coal exports. We want to transport commodities for more clients.”

Daniel Mokiri is very positive about the future of 4MS, which he believes will double its business in the future. Defining his company’s competitive edge, he says, “We always put the customer first, we are committed to being on time, we have a strong reputation in Botswana, and we have invested in a large, modern fleet which allows us to handle big jobs.”
