The National R&D Institute for Optoelectronics (INOE 2000) in Bucharest has developed exceptional expertise in fundamental and applied research in optoelectronics, analytical chemistry and mechanical engineering. Established in 1996, the institute plays an important role in the European Research Area. INOE employs around 160 highly trained researchers, includes six research departments and two certified test laboratories. It also has two subsidiaries: the Institute of Analytical Instrumentation Research, or ICIA, in Cluj-Napoca and the Hydraulics and Pneumatics Research Institute, or IHP, in Bucharest.

INOE’s activities focus on optoelectronic-engineering and analytical-instrumentation applications, optoelectronic materials and advanced surface processing, optoelectronic techniques for art restoration and for environmental assessment and remediation, renewable energies, and high-pressure technologies. General Manager Roxana Savastru explains, “Optoelectronics is a large field with many applications for healthcare, defence, industry, cultural heritage and the environment.”

INOE is involved in a large portfolio of projects in the Horizon 2020 initiative and has three major projects underway with the European Space Agency. The institute works with many local and international partners and welcomes the chance for further global cooperation. Roxana Savastru concludes, “INOE is a strong research institute dedicated to using our expertise to benefit society.”
