Angola, once one of Africa’s major food exporters in the decade prior to decolonization, now imports the vast majority of its food. The ravages of civil war decimated much of the infrastructure needed to bring Angolan food products to world markets; something the Angolan government is presently seeking to reverse. However, the lack of food security also presents an opportunity to organisations seeking to supply food to the Angolan people through both imports and domestic sources.

With a firm commitment to the nation’s growth and the ambition to serve Angolans in each of the country’s 18 provinces, Afrimer Trading has its sights firmly focused on the future. Agostinho Antonio Wilson, Afrimer’s Director General, explains, “My goal as a businessman is to lead a company that can support our people and be a partner with the Angolan government. We don’t necessarily have to be the biggest, but we want to have an impact on the lives of the Angolan people.” With a diversifying product line that runs the gamut from staple foods such as rice and maize, to current trends, such as energy drinks, Afrimer Trading is seeking European partners who can provide the necessary capital for further expansion, as well as those who share the aspiration of making life better for the people they serve.

Angola’s vast coastline, stretching more than 1,600 kilometers, is home not only to the vast petroleum deposits the country is known for, but also to the tremendous bounty of the sea. Afrimer Trading, already a distributor of domestically sourced seafood products, is interested in further harnessing Angola’s maritime resources. “We are looking for step-by-step growth,” Agostinho Antonio Wilson explains. “Our first goal is to get a boat for fishing, because the potential for the fishing industry is great.” This goal is one that Afrimer Trading shares with the Angolan government, which is currently undertaking to revive the industry, which much like infrastructure, was damaged by the war.

Angostinho Antonio Wilson is bullish about the country’s prospects, and invites potential investors to take a closer look at the vast potential the country offers.  Citing the array of programs geared toward potential investors that are presently being led by the government, the Angolan Chamber of Commerce, and international embassies, he is eager to help communicate the nation’s value proposition to the world community, particularly Europe.  “We invite European partners to this wonderful country. Together, we can grow.”
