Deloitte has been operating in Botswana for 42 years, and is a part of the Big four international firms. They offer a broad spectrum of all the services that anyone would expect from any of the Deloitte offices in any major city centres in the world, which include Consulting, Corporate Finance,, IT, Human Capital, and Tax Practice – clearly not just an Auditing Firm.
It has been part of their strategy to go into economies where they see growth and development and more so follow their clients. DeBeers have been a client of Deloitte for over 100 years therefore it comes as no surprise that they were compelled to set up offices in Botswana to provide support services to companies like Anglo American and DeBeers who were interested in developing mines in Botswana. Other major clients are Water Utilities Corporation, Botswana Power Corporation, First National Bank, in addition to servicing different sectors and the biggest parastatals.
Deloitte Botswana’s Managing Partner Max Marinelli is optimistic about doing business in Botswana, and urges foreign companies that are interested in setting up shop in Botswana to have long term views with intentions of having a permanent presence, and not look for short term gain. He further states: “The sustainability of a company is dependent on supporting the public sector bringing in FDI, is not so much as bringing in new clients as some of these clients already have a relationship from with accounting firms from where they come from. We have grown with this country. Future growth is dependent on continued growth.”
