The East European Centre for Integrated Applied Research (EECIAR), working with its sister enterprise MB Telecom, is bringing cutting-edge technologies to global markets. MB Telecom created Roboscan, a unique, fully automated scanner for trucks and containers. In 2009 it was awarded the Grand Prix of the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, for an invention which today protects the Eastern EU borders, marking the first time an Eastern European organisation had won the prestigious award. In 2013, MB Telecom won the Grand Prix at Geneva, an unprecedented second time for developing and marketing Roboscan Aeria – a unique solution for aircraft scanning.

Mircea Tudor, President and owner of MB Telecom and founder of EECIAR, explains, “Geneva is the Mecca for inventors all over the world. Our first Grand Prix was our international breakthrough. Roboscan uses high-intensity ionising radiation to penetrate the load of a truck or container, while also ensuring the safety of operators, being the only scanner in the world remote operated.” The scanner is part of an integrated border security system developed by MB Telecom over years with an investment in R&D of € 18 million, today implemented on the 2,200 km of EU border for which Romania is responsible.”

Mircea Tudor founded EECIAR to build on this successful research effort. He says, “EECIAR is a fully private research entity that operates with MB Telecom and through which we are able to enlarge our research spectrum by approaching other interdisciplinary large scale projects, mainly in border-security technologies, but not only. Our 2013 Grand Prix at Geneva was for developing the first aircraft-scanning technology in the world. Our scanner can perform a complete scan of an aircraft, fuselage and wings, in minutes, generating high resolution radiography”

MB Telecom and EECIAR’s aircraft scanner has been getting significant attention from potential clients worldwide. Mircea Tudor says, “As the only SME in the world which has managed to achieve such successes at such a high technological level, we invite our potential clients interested in border-security solutions to visit us so that we can demonstrate our abilities to manufacture and deliver exceptional products, service and maintenance worldwide.” MB Telecom and EECIAR’s aircraft scanner Roboscan has far-ranging security applications in private, government and military operations.

EECIAR and MB Telecom have many other research projects underway, including a security system for ATMs which won the Special Award of the International Press at the Geneva 2013 Inventions Exhibition. Other projects include an energy-saving solution for metal extrusion, an innovative cancer treatment and energy-efficient technologies for buildings management. Mircea Tudor says, “There is no resource in the world more valuable than human intelligence, and we can generate top solutions and know-how for global problems, here in Romania, based on this endless resource”
