World-Class Distribution of Quality Pharmaceuticals

Sophar provides reliable, international-standard distribution of pharmaceuticals for the Rwandan market and beyond. Founded by a group of 58 pharmacists and working in partnership with Fanisi since 2012, Sophar has invested in a world-class warehouse with cold-storage facilities. It is the only pharmaceuticals warehouse of its kind in Rwanda.

Executive Chairman and co-founder Leon Fundira explains, “Branded pharmaceuticals products from Europe represent 95% of our sales. We are committed to reliable quality. We are interested in expanding our portfolio and we are looking for quality products at affordable prices.” He expects that generic pharmaceuticals will account for around 10% to 15% of the company’s sales in the future.

Around 80% to 90% of Sophar’s customers are retail pharmacies throughout Rwanda and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, although Sophar also supplies products to supermarkets and hospitals. Leon Fundira is currently looking for international partners to help Sophar continue to grow. He seeks sources of high-quality generic pharmaceuticals as well as partnerships to facilitate Sophar’s reach in Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
