Ukraine celebrated Europe Day

DAY OF EUROPE CELEBRATION –  May 19, 2012 UKRAINE

On May 19, Ukraine celebrated Europe Day. The President of Ukraine established this day by decree in 1993 and this year marked the 10th anniversary of the celebration.
The European Times is proud to have participated in the following events, all of which took place in the context of the Day of Europe Celebration.

1) On May 18 from 09:30 till 15:00 An international high-level debate : ‘Ukraine-EU: at the Rubicon’ took place at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.

The event was organized by the European Policy Center (Brussels) and the International foundation ‘European development’ (Ukraine) in cooperation with a number of Ukrainian and European NGOs under the auspices of the MFA of Ukraine and the State Migration Service of Ukraine.

Minister for foreign affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Gryschenko, EU representatives, delegates from Ukrainian central authorities, members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representatives of the leading NGOs from Ukraine and the EU participated in the debate.

Topics covered included the state of relations between Ukraine and the EU, a discussion on free trade and a progress report on the Visa question. Questions were taken from members of the audience.

2) On May 18 from 18:00 till 22:30 European evening at the National Opera of Ukraine.

The evening was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Kyiv State Administration, International foundation European development, The Volodymyr Filippov Foundation for Arts Promotion sponsored by Unicredit Bank, all of whom were proud to present the European Premiere of the ballet INTERSECTION (Music composed by Myroslav Skoryk, choreography by Radu Poklitaru, set design by Oleksandr Dryganov).

Multiple representatives of the state authorities of Ukraine, members of the Ukrainian Parliament, Cultural and Scientific personalities, representatives of public organizations from Ukraine, representatives of the European Union and the EU diplomatic corps in Ukraine were invited to the event.

Kostiantyn Gryschenko , Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Mykhailo Kulyniak, Minister of Culture of Ukraine, took part in the official opening ceremony.

A reception was offered immediately following the ballet.

3) On May 19 from 11:00 till 18:00 European village on Khreschatyk street. There were many musical events, presentations by the EU diplomatic missions in Ukraine, host-cities of Euro-2012, along with various information stands and amusements by well-known European companies.

From 11:00 till 12:00 the “European parade”, organized by Ukraine-wide NGO “European youth of Ukraine marched down Khreschatyk street.

Kostiantyn Gryschenko , Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mykhailo Kulyniak, Minister of Culture of Ukraine, and Olexander Popov, Head of Kiev State Administration, took part in the official opening ceremony of the EUROPEAN VILLAGE from 12 pm to 1 pm.
