The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest (USAMV B), with its 163-year-old tradition is the pinnacle of academic and scientific excellence, built on the legacy of the great names of Romanian agronomic education and science. As an accredited public higher education and research institution, the mission of USAMV B is to train top specialists whose competencies meet the demands of the labour market in the fundamental fields of engineering and biological sciences.

The study areas taught at the University include Agronomy, Biology, Forestry, Horticulture, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Food Engineering, Civil, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnologies, Applied Engineering Sciences, Engineering and Management in Agriculture and Rural Development.

Almost 10.000 bachelor students, 2.000 master and 250 PhD students are studying in the University’s two campuses: Agronomie-Herastrau and Veterinary Medicine-Cotroceni Campus.

The Agronomie-Herastrau Campus, with an area of 39 hectares, near the famous Bucharest park, houses six of the seven faculties of the University. “The campus also includes experimental teaching fields (for viticulture, fruits and vegetables), a research centre for the study of food product quality, a greenhouse, a botanical garden, sports grounds and modernised, fully equipped dormitories for 4000 persons,” says Rector Sorin Cimpeanu. Meals are provided by the Agronomie Catering Complex, with “a la carte” dining room for the students, two restaurants, and three conference rooms. The University sports complex features an Olympic-size polyvalent gym, a fitness room, two football fields and a foot tennis court.

High ratings and employability

In recognition of its outstanding reputation, the University has received many prestigious awards and recognitions, the latest one being the “High Degree of Confidence Rating” by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education for the period 2015-2020.

Through the 32 Erasmus agreements, as well as additional international cooperation treaties, the University attracts international students, especially at its English taught programme on Veterinary Medicine.

The diverse mix of students benefits from the research facilities at the central library and a dozen of research centres, which house impressive collections of books, encyclopedia and a wide range of scientific publications.

In the last years, agriculture has become a real-life belt of the national economy”, Rector Cimpeanu explains, adding that their graduates “contribute to its revival and modernization.”

The applied learning which is given by the University ensures high employability of its alumni. Over 160 agreements with economic and scientific research entities provide students with incredible opportunities for practical training.

Our students will be the ones who will transform subsistence farming into a profit source and a tourist attraction, they will be the producers of new animal varieties and breeds, of traditional and organic food,” Rector Sorin Cimpeanu concludes.
