Kasteelhoeve de Kerckhem is not like other boutique hotels; it is truly a labour of love for owners Erik and Tessa Feldhaus van Ham – van Dam Merrett. Set in a country house dating from 1648, the 10-room hotel was fully renovated into a beautiful property by the couple themselves. They also prepare the meals they serve, using the freshest possible ingredients, including from their own vegetable garden.

Explaining what sets de Kerckhem apart from other hotel properties, Tessa says, “Our hotel is unique. We welcome guests as we would like to be welcomed ourselves, and we treat them like members of the family. The service we offer here is designed to be an unforgettable experience for our visitors. All our guestrooms are very comfortable, and we have fires in the fireplaces and candles everywhere so that the house feels warm and welcoming. People from the city can come here and completely relax in a peaceful rural setting.” She adds that the hotel’s mission is to deliver “100% comfort and hospitality.”

De Kerckhem has won a loyal following not only for its cosy guestrooms and welcoming atmosphere but also for its excellent cooking. The hotel can accommodate up to 30 guests for meals and for special events even more. “We do not have an industrial kitchen and treat our guests as though they were visitors in our home,” Erik says.

“For business customers we offer an attractive meeting room which is ideal for management and team events. Our visitors are often relieved when they come here, because our hotel is not like anonymous chain properties.” Thanks to its size, Kasteelhoeve de Kerckhem is also an excellent choice for families and other groups who can rent the entire property for a private occasion. One of the guestrooms is designed for people with reduced mobility.

The hotel’s location in the Limburg region is a plus for both business and leisure travellers, since it is very central and easily reached from anywhere in Belgium and beyond. A new highway between Limburg and Eindhoven will make de Kerckhem even more accessible.

Erik and Tessa have many additional improvements planned for their property, including a new parking area, a new conference room and perhaps more guestrooms. Erik concludes, “Tessa will continue cooking and I will continue handling the restoration work. This is a family project. We love to welcome visitors and pamper them at Kasteelhoeve de Kerckhem.”
