Fountain Advocates

Primarily a corporate law firm, Fountain Advocates is the first choice for many foreign investors in Rwanda, benefiting from the services of the company throughout the entire process of doing business, from registration to implementation of their projects, in a wide area of industries and sectors, including mining, energy and real estate. John Bosco Bungingo, Managing Partner, together with his partner Didas Kayihura, have been working in various law firms before establishing Fountain Advocates in 2008. Scientifically advancing to masters and PhD degrees in business and corporate governance, their expertise in business law, enables them to seize the opportunities of Rwanda’s path towards a regional investment hub, even accompanying their clients to Burundi, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based on multiple successful dossiers, it is no wonder that foreign investors to Rwanda have even used their services for investing in Europe.

The partners serve as advisers to Rwanda Energy Group, perform Arbitration as members of the Kigali International Arbitration Centre, teach at the University of Rwanda and have been involved in training prosecutors and judges. Their team is consisted of 10 associates, some of which serve as consultants, including an American lawyer who brings along the benefit of international exposure and different insights.

Satisfied clients constantly refer new ones

As John Bosco Bungingo explains, they “work with a blend of both local and foreign investments to help them negotiate appropriate contracts, ensure conformity with Rwandan law and help them avoid litigations or disputes down the road.” Through a holistic approach, Fountain Advocates accompany their clients with advice on new business opportunities, structuring, providing executive secretaries during board meetings, advising boards, providing trainings and assisting them with acquiring financing from local banks and financial institutions. These services are provided in various sectors, with a tailor-made approach which adapts to peculiarities, so it is understandable why clients chose to stay with the company. John Bosco Bungingo adds that “90% of them are corporate clients on retainer, and our work then is much more into overseeing transactions than in litigation.”

Working with banks and financial institutions, from commercial banks to microfinance groups, Fountain Advocates do not usually need to search for new clients, as they come through referrals from existing ones. The personal experience and reputation of the partners and associates, as well as the eight-year-long tradition of the company will ensure that client satisfaction will mark their future work.
