Horia Laurentiu Tiseanu, Mayor of Campina

Campina Municipality in Prahova County is known worldwide for its thriving oil industry, but the city has many other attractions for investors and visitors. Set in a beautiful mountainous area at the crossroads of three major rivers, Campina offers significant tourism potential. It is also strategically located near European corridors IV, VII and IX and will be served by the future Bucharest-Brasov highway. Campina is 30 km from Ploiesti and around 90 km from both Bucharest and Brasov, and it is around 80 km from Henri Coanda International and Baneasa airports. Horia Laurentiu Tiseanu, Mayor, discusses Campina’s attractions for business and tourism.

European Times: Can you describe the economy of Campina today?

Horia Laurentiu Tiseanu: Campina has many highly developed industrial sectors, including oil, machinery construction (mainly for the oil industry), textiles, chemicals and furniture. My strategy as mayor is to diversify the local economy by establishing tourism as one of our main economic activities along with industry. Tourism projects have enormous potential here, and we have just opened a tourist-information centre (February, 2016). We are looking for investors in hotels, restaurants and other tourism and hospitality projects, and we are planning to offer special incentives for tourism investment.

European Times: Why should investors target Campina?

Horia Laurentiu Tiseanu: Campina has a very qualified workforce at all levels, from factory workers to managers, especially in heavy industry but also in light industry and trading. We are currently setting up an industrial park where investors can count on well-developed transport infrastructure, skilled labour and a number of new incentives, including tax advantages and very low rents. Companies in industrial sectors, as well as woodworking and food-processing enterprises, would find it very profitable to operate in this new park. One example would be to process our many and varied local berries and fruits into jams, juices, medicines, and fruit and herbal teas. Campina also enjoys a strategic location between Bucharest and Brasov and is just 25 km from Sinaia, the tourism pearl of the Carpathians.

European Times: What is your personal message to potential investors and visitors?

Horia Laurentiu Tiseanu: Extraordinary Campina has everything investors and visitors are looking for: a great climate with over 300 days of sunshine every year, rich natural resources, beautiful landscapes, high quality of life, and intelligent, well-educated and experienced workers. Come to Campina! You can count on strong support from the local administration and you will be warmly welcomed by our community.
