Ecoaqua SA Calarasi provides clean drinking water and wastewater-treatment services to around 115,000 residents in Calarasi and Ialomita counties, serving Calarasi, Oltenita, Lehliu-Gara, Budesti, Fundulea and Urziceni. CEO Cezar Neagu says, “Everywhere we operate, we have modernised water and water-treatment systems and guarantee high-quality water. Out of around 50 communities in Calarasi County, 32 have asked to work with us. We strive to maintain the highest EU standards.”
The company has received EU funding for the six cities it serves, but needs further investment in order to ensure proper standards water and wastewater services to the inhabitants of the communities that will accede to the operator.
Cezar Neagu notes that government-mandated water prices are too low for Ecoaqua to achieve high enough revenues to continue to upgrade its systems on its own. He says, “The price of the water is a political decision and politicians have to understand that without adequate revenues we cannot make investments nor keep up with the maintenance costs of the world class and expensive imported equipment, required by the water and wastewater treatment technological processes. This is not in the best interests of Romania’s citizens.”
Ecoaqua welcomes the chance to collaborate with other EU enterprises. Cezar Neagu explains, “We would be especially happy to work with a company offering a solution to the problem with mud we sometimes experience. We are open to productive partnerships.”
