The National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest, founded in 1970, is Romania’s leading institution for R&D and innovation in ICT. The institute has been certified ISO 9001 since 2001 for its scientific research and technological development resulting in innovative ICT products, technologies, systems and services. ICI Bucharest plays a key role in establishing a dynamic, globally active knowledge-based culture in Romania.

Doina Banciu, ICI’s General Manager

ICI Bucharest puts the focus on practical applications for new ICT technologies. As part of its commitment to transparency and to sharing the results of its R&D efforts, ICI Bucharest publishes “Studies in Informatics and Control”, a print and online journal reporting on new ICT developments and their applications. Doina Banciu, ICI’s General Manager, explained: “Our priority at ICI is for our research to lead to new ICT products which will be adopted by industry. We want our R&D efforts to result in innovative products and solutions with business applicability”.

Tailored Data-Security Solutions for Business Clients

The institute’s skilled team of professionals can work directly with individual companies to help identify any ICT-related problems and find appropriate solutions. Doina Banciu pointed out, “Many companies today face challenges involving data security. Our in-depth experience and knowledge in this field enable us to provide them with innovative solutions to such challenges. ICI Bucharest has the infrastructure, knowledge and experience to help companies build for the future.”

A Commitment to International Collaboration

ICI Bucharest has earned an international reputation as a very desirable partner for ICT projects. In 2014, ICI signed an agreement with South Korea’s Ministry for Science, ICT and Future Planning to establish a Romania-South Korea ICT Cooperation Centre which will promote joint ICT initiatives between the two countries. ICI welcomes more international partnerships like this which can bring benefits for both sides.

Another project for ICI Bucharest is ICIPRO, the first cloud-computing platform for Romania’s public institutions. ICI provides the ICT resources and technologies institutions need to store data securely on the cloud and to make information more easily available to Romania’s citizens. This important project received €17 million in EU funds.

Doina Banciu urges international organizations and companies to partner with ICI Bucharest: “ICI Bucharest is a very well-known institute in Romania and abroad. We have a long history and we have managed to retain highly skilled human resources in our field. ICI Bucharest offers expertise international partners can count on.”
